Copyright is authors protection of their work. The U.S. Copyright Office states that copyright is " To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by security for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries". Plagiarism is stealing and using information from sources without giving the sources their accreditation of discovery. For instance, when writing an research paper without citing sources from the author is consider plagiarizing. Fair Use is limited usage of copyright materials so one will not be accused of copyrighting. The Merriam-Webster defines Fair Use as a legal doctrine that portions of copyrighted materials may be used without permission of the copyright owner provided the use is fair and reasonable, does not substantially impair the value of the materials, and does not curtail the profits reasonably expected by the owner.
